Alysha Newman Qualifies for Olympic Pole Vault Final

Alysha Newman, the Canadian pole vaulter, has secured her spot in the final for the women’s pole vault at the Olympics! Competing in Paris, she successfully cleared 4.55 meters during her qualifying round.

Newman, who is currently the Canadian record holder, is making her third Olympic appearance. The final is set to take place on Wednesday, and she’ll be joined by 20 other women athletes. Out of a challenging qualifying round, only 11 vaulters cleared the set standard of 4.70 meters.

Newman’s previous Olympic experiences haven’t gone as planned. In Rio 2016, she finished 17th, and the Tokyo 2020 Games were tougher when she failed to clear her opening height. However, she’s bounced back and is showing her incredible resilience this year.

Earlier this year, Newman was in peak form before suffering a Grade 2 right ankle sprain. Following a tough recovery, she returned to form, even clearing a season-best of 4.76 meters in the Diamond League competition held in London.
