Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s Intense Filming Experience in ‘We Live In Time’
Actors Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh have recently shared their unique experience filming a particular scene in their upcoming movie, “We Live In Time.” The film, which is planned for release in the United Kingdom on January 1, 2025, depicts a time-hopping narrative following the lives of a couple, Tobias and Almut, portrayed by Garfield and Pugh respectively.
During a conversation hosted by journalist Josh Horowitz at 92nd Street Y, Garfield revealed an unexpected moment that occurred while filming a passionate scene with Pugh. Garfield recounted that during the first take of an intimate scene, they failed to hear the director’s instruction to “cut.” According to Garfield, the set was closed, with only Garfield, Pugh, and camera operator Stuart present. Garfield described Stuart as “a lovely man,” who was waiting for the actors to naturally conclude the scene.
Garfield described the situation as they became engrossed in their performances: “We were doing the first take of this very intimate, passionate scene… it’s feeling safe and we just kind of… go from the next thing to the next thing and we’ll let this progress.” The incident led to the cameraman turning towards the wall, holding the camera at his side. Social media users reacted to Garfield’s recounting with a mix of surprise and admiration for the considerate cameraman, with comments highlighting both the humor and challenge of remaining in character.
Beyond this moment of filming, both Pugh and Garfield have reflected on their roles in “We Live In Time.” Pugh noted that it was only the second time in her film career she used her natural English accent. Garfield admitted it was the first time he had used his natural voice in a film, adding a personal touch to their performances as Tobias and Almut.
