Apple Secures Exclusive F1 Broadcasting Rights In Five-Year Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Apple and Formula 1 have announced a five-year partnership that makes Apple the exclusive U.S. broadcast partner for F1 races starting in 2026. This agreement follows the success of the Apple Original Film, “F1 The Movie,” which grossed nearly $630 million globally.
As part of this new collaboration, every race, practice, and qualifying session will be available to Apple TV subscribers. Certain races and all practice sessions will also be available for free in the Apple TV app. Apple secured these rights for an estimated $140 million to $150 million annually, a significant increase from ESPN’s previous average of $85 million per year for its F1 broadcasting.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “2026 marks a transformative new era for Formula 1, and we look forward to delivering premium and innovative fan-first coverage to our customers in a way that only Apple can.”
The partnership aims to not only broadcast F1 but also leverage Apple’s platforms, such as Apple News and Apple Music, to enhance fans’ experience. Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, commented on the collaboration, emphasizing the shared vision to engage new fans through live broadcasts and engaging content.
This agreement builds on the successful history between Apple and F1, particularly through the production of “F1 The Movie,” which has been celebrated for its authenticity. In addition to all the F1 content available through Apple TV, F1 TV Premium will now be included for Apple TV subscribers at no additional cost.
As Formula 1 continues to grow in the U.S., with a fanbase of 52 million reported in 2024, this partnership is seen as a strategic move to further expand its viewership and engage younger audiences.
In conclusion, this partnership marks a new chapter in F1’s media landscape, where both Apple and Formula 1 aim to redefine the sports viewing experience for fans across the United States.
