Apple Tv+ Sugar Series Colin Farrell

The detective drama ‘Sugar,’ featuring Colin Farrell as the lead character, has been renewed for a second season by Apple TV+. This announcement follows the successful debut of the show’s first season, which aired on the streaming platform starting last April with new episodes released weekly. Colin Farrell stars as John Sugar, a private investigator embroiled in solving high-profile cases.

The first season’s storyline centered around Farrell’s character, who was enlisted by a wealthy Hollywood producer to uncover the mystery behind his granddaughter’s disappearance. The ensemble cast included notable actors such as James Cromwell, Amy Ryan, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, Alex Hernandez, and Kirby, formerly known as Kirby Howell-Baptiste.

Executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg expressed their excitement in a statement about the show’s renewal. “It has been incredibly exciting to see audiences around the world embrace Sugar, and we are thrilled to return for a second season,” they said. They acknowledged their appreciation for the support from Apple, the talents of Colin Farrell, and the audience’s engagement.

Matt Cherniss, the head of programming at Apple TV+, praised the series for its intriguing plot and Farrell’s outstanding performance. Cherniss said, “Since its premiere, audiences have been gripped by the mysteries and twists of Sugar, with an incredible performance by Colin Farrell at the center.” He commended the show’s creative team for seamlessly blending genres to deliver an unpredictable narrative.

In the upcoming season, John Sugar returns to Los Angeles to tackle another missing person case while continuing to search for his sister. The series is overseen by Sam Catlin, taking over showrunner duties from Mark Protosevich. Catlin, previously associated with AMC’s ‘Preacher,’ will also serve as an executive producer alongside Colin Farrell and others.

The precise number of episodes for the second season has not been confirmed as of now. The first season comprised eight episodes. ‘Sugar’ is produced by Genre Films and Sam Catlin’s Short Drive Entertainment, with Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich also on board as executive producers.
