Arsenal Intensifies Search for New Centre-Forward Ahead of Summer Transfers

LONDON, England – Arsenal is ramping up its efforts to secure a new centre-forward, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko emerging as top targets. The Gunners’ recruitment team is closely monitoring both players, with potential agreements expected to fall under a £75 million budget due to specific clauses in their contracts.
The club aims to be proactive in the upcoming transfer window, which may also see player departures generating additional funds. Gyokeres and Sesko lead Arsenal’s list of potential signings, although other options are still in early scouting and negotiation phases.
Arsenal has already laid preliminary groundwork toward acquiring Benjamin Sesko. Sources indicate that the club’s interest in the 21-year-old Slovenian has existed for months. While his previous price tag was around £58 million, rising performance metrics and demand have pushed his cost closer to £75 million. Sesko’s experience in the Champions League, combined with his pace and aerial ability, makes him a promising option for the Gunners.
“Mikel Arteta appreciates a striker who excels beyond just scoring, emphasizing hold-up play and movement,” a club insider noted. Yet, there is recognition that Sesko is still developing his full potential.
Meanwhile, the appointment of Andrea Berta as Arsenal’s new sporting director has intensified discussions regarding Gyokeres. At 26, Gyokeres provides immediate value with a strong goal-scoring record from his time in Portugal. His market value is reportedly £15 million less than Sesko, making him an economically appealing choice.
However, analysts within the club are keen to assess how Gyokeres’ success in the Primeira Liga will translate to the Premier League and European competition as decisions approach.
While Gyokeres and Sesko are currently the front-runners, other forwards under consideration include Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa, although negotiations with them have not advanced as much.
There is also interest in Alexander Isak of Newcastle United, though any deal for the striker is considered implausible. “Arteta would love Alexander Isak,” said a source familiar with club discussions, “but any deal is nevertheless seen as impossible.”
In conjunction with strengthening their forward line, Arsenal is exploring the addition of a winger, depending heavily on player departures. Nico Williams of Athletic Club and Joao Pedro of Brighton are among those being scouted for this role.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal remains focused on finalizing decisions regarding Gyokeres and Sesko, with the final choice hinging on availability, cost, and fit within Arteta’s overall strategy for the 2025 season.
