Arvind Kejriwal Arrested by CBI in Excise Policy Case: Remanded to 3-Day Custody
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was formally arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case. The arrest came after the CBI presented Kejriwal before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi where he has been remanded to a three-day custody.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in Judicial Custody in connection with the money laundering case stemming from the alleged excise scam, had his bail order challenged at the Delhi High Court. The High Court recently put an interim stay on the trial court’s bail order, leading to a series of legal proceedings for Kejriwal.
On Tuesday, the CBI examined Kejriwal in Tihar Jail and recorded his statement in the Excise Policy case. Subsequently, the Supreme Court allowed Kejriwal to withdraw his petition against the Delhi High Court’s order and file a fresh plea challenging the final decision.
The legal battle surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest has been unfolding rapidly, with the CBI seeking custody of the Delhi CM for further investigation into the excise policy case. The court proceedings have been closely followed by supporters and opponents of Kejriwal, as the case takes center stage in the political landscape.
Kejriwal’s arrest has sparked reactions from various political leaders and party members. It has reignited the debate on the use of probe agencies in targeting opposition leaders, with AAP accusing the Centre of using investigative bodies to further political agendas.
