Australians Win Big in Latest Powerball Draws
In a stroke of fortune, a number of Australian lottery players have secured substantial winnings in recent lottery draws. During Thursday’s $10 million Powerball draw, four participants managed to clinch a division two prize, each taking home $100,041.90. Despite the absence of a division one winner, 49 division three winners, including four from Western Australia, received $10,153.20 each. As no player claimed the top division prize, next week’s Powerball jackpot is set to climb to $20 million.
The winning numbers for draw #1482, held on Thursday, October 10, were 5, 28, 33, 11, 10, 35, and 7, with the Powerball number being 1. This recent win follows closely behind a retiree from Cairns scooping an $8 million Oz Lotto jackpot earlier in the week after successfully picking all of the winning numbers.
Meanwhile, a resident of Kangy Angy on the Central Coast celebrated a $12 million windfall from the Powerball draw on October 3. Identified as the sole division one winner in draw 1481, the fortunate individual had yet to process the life-changing news when contacted by lottery officials. “It’s a bit of a shock,” he said, recalling the multiple missed calls on his work phone before discovering his new millionaire status. The winning ticket, a 50-game QuickPick, was purchased online via Australia‘s official lottery website, The Lott.
When discussing plans for future celebrations, the Central Coast winner expressed intentions to surprise his wife with the news over a special dinner. “I’m actually taking my wife out for dinner tonight at a fancy restaurant,” he shared. “She will be over the moon about the news.”
As of 2024, the regions of Hunter and Central Coast in New South Wales have celebrated 25 major lottery wins, with the total prize money exceeding $124.04 million. Nationwide, there have been 339 division one winning entries reported by The Lott for FY24, with New South Wales accounting for 98 of them. The year also saw Powerball offering a historical $200 million jackpot, with an Adelaide man emerging as the nation’s largest-ever individual lottery winner with a $150 million prize.
