Canadian pop-punk sensation Avril Lavigne has been announced as one of the 83 new appointees to the prestigious Order of Canada by Governor General Mary Simon.

Hailing from Napanee, Ontario, Lavigne has made remarkable contributions to the music industry as one of the best-selling female artists of all time.

Renowned for her trailblazing role in female-driven punk-rock music, Lavigne has sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

Aside from her musical accomplishments, Lavigne is being recognized for her philanthropic efforts, notably through the Avril Lavigne Foundation.

The foundation focuses on supporting individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities, and specifically advocates for those affected by Lyme disease.

As a global ambassador for Special Olympics, Lavigne champions inclusion and works tirelessly to combat the stigma surrounding intellectual disabilities.

This year’s honourees will be officially appointed to the Order of Canada at upcoming ceremonies.
