Baby Girl Abandoned at Midtown Manhattan Subway Station

NEW YORK CITY – A baby girl was found alone on a subway platform in Manhattan on Monday morning, according to police. The NYPD reported the infant was discovered at approximately 9:30 a.m. on the southbound platform of the 34th Street-Penn Station stop for the 1, 2, and 3 lines.
Witnesses said the baby, who appeared to be a newborn, was lying wrapped in a sheet at the bottom of the staircase. The person who found her quickly called 911, prompting emergency responders to arrive at the scene.
Police noted that the baby was conscious and alert when found. Emergency Medical Services took her to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation, where she was reported to be in stable condition. Authorities said the child did not show any signs of injury.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the subway station to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. As of this morning, there have been no arrests and the whereabouts of the infant’s parents remain unknown.
New York State has an Abandoned Infant Protection Act that allows parents to leave a newborn, up to 30 days old, in safe locations like hospitals or police stations without facing legal repercussions. This is intended to protect infants in dangerous situations.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
