Kai Cenat Driving While Using Phone On Stream

NEW YORK, New York — Popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat is facing widespread backlash and calls for a ban after he appeared to check his phone while driving during a live stream on March 30. The incident has raised serious concerns about distracted driving and the responsibilities of content creators.

In the now-viral clip, Cenat, 23, is seen operating a vehicle and using his phone simultaneously, a clear violation of both the law and Twitch’s community guidelines, which prohibit dangerous or distracted driving. Although the video was removed from Cenat’s channel shortly after it aired, it circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting a flurry of online criticism and calls for action.

A tweet from a user reflecting the sentiments of many stated, “This is so wrong, bad role modeling, promoting illegal and dangerous behavior. Where is the police?” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one user questioning, “Twitch should punish streamers when they break a law on stream.” The discussions on Twitter have primarily focused on perceived favoritism within Twitch, as many noted that fellow streamer Jasontheween has not been penalized despite similar accusations.

“Y’all remember when Adin got banned on Twitch in 2021 after doing the exact same thing? Yet Kai and Jasontheween can do the exact same thing and not get banned,” one user argued. Cenat’s actions reflect a worrisome trend among streamers who neglect safety behind the wheel for the sake of content creation.

Previous infractions involving distracted driving on the platform have resulted in severe consequences. Notably, Polish streamer Sidneuke was banned after a traumatic incident in which she struck a dog while distracted by her chat, leading to immediate backlash and a permanent ban from Twitch.

Twitch’s community guidelines explicitly state that “dangerous or distracted driving, including using a phone while driving,” is prohibited. The enforcement of these guidelines remains inconsistent, leaving many users to speculate on whether popular streamers like Cenat are treated differently due to their massive followings.

In a statement to Indy100, a spokesperson confirmed that Twitch is aware of the issue but had no immediate comment on potential disciplinary actions for Cenat. As the discussion continues to unfold, many fans and critics alike are left questioning the platform’s accountability.

The situation highlights the immense influence streamers wield and the implications of their actions on public safety. As pressures mount for Twitch to address the growing trend of distracted driving among its creators, viewers are calling for a more stringent approach to moderation.
