Ballerina” Trailer Released: A “John Wick” Spinoff Packed with Action

The first trailer for “Ballerina,” the spinoff from the popular “John Wick” franchise, has been released, premiering ahead of its scheduled release on June 6, 2025. The film features Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a Ruska Roman ballerina seeking vengeance against a group of hitmen responsible for the murder of her family. “Ballerina” is set between the events of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” spotlighting the character’s quest for revenge.

The trailer provides a glimpse into the action-packed journey of Eve, showing her origins and her relentless path towards retribution. Iconic sequences include her using an ice skate as a weapon and deploying a high-powered hose against her adversaries. John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, also makes an appearance in the trailer, further linking this spinoff to the main franchise narrative.

“Ballerina” not only features Keanu Reeves but also sees the return of other “John Wick” stars such as Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick. Joining them are Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus. According to writer Shay Hatten, Reeves’s character will have a significant role in the film, not merely reduced to a cameo.

The “John Wick” series continues to expand its universe, with “Ballerina” following the success of its predecessor, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which grossed over $440 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing installment in the franchise. This spinoff arrives after the release of the “John Wick” prequel miniseries “The Continental,” which premiered on Peacock in September 2023.

The movie is directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, with the story based on characters created by Derek Kolstad. Production is led by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski, the latter of whom directed all four “John Wick” films. Kaley Smalley Romo serves as executive producer.

“Ballerina” dives deeper into the “John Wick” universe, balancing the elegant agility of ballet with the brutal world of organized assassinations. The character Eve Macarro, previously portrayed by American ballet dancer Unity Phelan in “John Wick: Chapter 3,” now sees Ana de Armas stepping into the role with her portrayal of a fierce and determined protagonist.
