The BBC has revealed plans for a spectacular season of classic entertainment programming set to air on BBC Four and iPlayer during the upcoming Olympics coverage. This special lineup will take viewers on a nostalgia-filled journey through iconic TV shows spanning the past five decades.

Headlining this extraordinary showcase is the first-ever episode of the widely popular dance competition show, Strictly Come Dancing, which originally aired in 2004 featuring hosts Tess Daly and the legendary Sir Bruce Forsyth. Fans would also be treated to the final episode of Sir Michael Parkinson‘s renowned chat show before its transition to ITV in 2004, presenting interviews with notable figures like Sir Bruce and sports star Boris Becker.

The historic collection extends to timeless favorites such as The Generation Game and multiple iterations of Blankety Blank hosted by household names like Sir Terry Wogan, Les Dawson, and Paul O’Grady‘s alter ego, Lily Savage. Additionally, viewers can revisit shows like Noel’s House Party, Bob’s Full House, and catch comedian Miranda Hart’s humorous interview with Sir Bruce from 2013.

Lindsay Currie, the BBC’s Head of Channel Management, expressed excitement about this nostalgic journey, highlighting BBC Four and iPlayer as platforms to relive the magic of beloved TV presenters and classic programs. She underlined the enduring appeal of these iconic shows and anticipated that audiences would revel in rediscovering these gems during the Olympics season.

The full programming schedule for the Classic Entertainment Season, which commences on Saturday July 27, will be disclosed in due course, promising a trip down memory lane for viewers eager to reminisce about the rich heritage of BBC’s Saturday night entertainment offerings.
