Bexar County Votes on Spurs Arena and Rodeo Propositions
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Voters in Bexar County cast their ballots on November 4, 2025, to decide on two significant propositions that could reshape the local sports and entertainment landscape. The propositions aim to fund a new downtown arena for the San Antonio Spurs and enhance the current facilities at Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum.
Proposition A seeks approval for an estimated $192 million to $198 million to transform the Frost Bank Center and its adjoining grounds into year-round rodeo facilities. The funding would come from a 5% car rental tax and an increase in the Hotel Occupancy Tax to 2%.
On the other hand, Proposition B proposes to allocate up to $311 million, or 25% of the cost of the new arena, whichever is lower. This project has a total projected price tag of $1.3 billion. If passed, Bexar County would use the same tax sources as Proposition A for financing.
As of 5 p.m. on Election Day, the Bexar County Elections Department reported more than 230,000 ballots had been cast, including approximately 148,000 early voters. Polls closed at 7 p.m., and initial results are expected to stream in shortly after.
Judge Peter Sakai spoke at River North Icehouse, expressing gratitude for community support. “We have elections, that’s what democracy is all about,” Sakai said. “Whatever the results are, we need to come together as a community.”
Voting turnout has already exceeded numbers from previous elections, reflecting how vital these propositions are to local citizens. Sakai noted the significance of revitalizing the East Side through Proposition A, emphasizing that both propositions are essential for the community’s future.
As tensions rise, several advocates and community groups are actively campaigning for and against the propositions. Recent comments indicate there is a division between those who support public funding for a new Spurs stadium and those who are skeptical about further public expenditure.
By the end of the night, Bexar County officials are expecting updates on the propositions’ outcomes and their potential impact on the Spurs and local community. The results will determine the future of the surrounding neighborhoods and the city’s entertainment offerings.
