Biden Bans Offshore Drilling, Trump Vows to Reverse Decision
President Joe Biden announced a sweeping executive action on Monday, permanently banning new offshore oil and gas drilling across 625 million acres of U.S. coastal and offshore waters. The decision, made under the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), blocks future leasing along the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and parts of Alaska‘s Northern Bering Sea. Biden framed the move as a critical step in combating climate change and protecting coastal ecosystems.
