Biden’s Declining Health Raises Concerns Ahead of 2024 Election

WILMINGTON, Del. — President Joe Biden woke up the morning after the 2024 election feeling wronged by the Democratic establishment. He believed he could have beaten Donald Trump if he had not been pushed out of the race by party elites, including Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, echoing his claims that polls had suggested he was still a viable candidate.
However, Biden’s pollsters refuted this notion, indicating that credible data showed he would likely lose if he stayed in the race. Insiders suggested that Biden’s inner circle shielded him from harsh realities, particularly about his age, which many voters deemed a significant issue well before prominent Democrats acknowledged it.
David Plouffe, who once managed Obama’s campaign, lamented that Biden had “screwed us as a party.” After Biden’s withdrawal on July 21, 2024, he joined Kamala Harris‘s campaign in a rescue effort, describing the short campaign timeline as a “fucking nightmare.” Plouffe attributed many of the party’s troubles to Biden’s decision to run for re-election, only to bow out after weeks of uncertainty.
Biden’s presidency had already been marred by questions surrounding his cognitive abilities, and problems came to a head during a June debate against Trump, exposing doubts among Democratic supporters. A prominent strategist remarked, “He stole an election from the Democratic Party.” By refusing to face reality about his mental decline, Biden was seen as making it harder for Democrats to secure a victory in the general election.
George Clooney, who developed a long-standing friendship with Biden, first met him post-9/11. Clooney had interacted with him several times, always noticing gradual changes. During a fund-raising event on June 15, 2024, Clooney saw Biden arrive from Italy and noted his severe change in demeanor. “It was startling,” a VIP attendee recalled, as Biden appeared frail and disoriented.
As fundraising efforts picked up, Clooney and others began to worry about Biden’s ability to connect with supporters. Attendees at the Los Angeles event reported that Biden struggled to recall names and seemed out of touch, symptoms concerning enough to spark discussions among high-profile figures about his fitness to run.
In the face of ongoing pressure, Clooney drafted an op-ed arguing for Biden to step aside, expressing his admiration while citing a need for new leadership within the party. “We are not going to win in November with this president,” Clooney stated, urging a focus on other potential candidates for the nomination.
Despite internal pushback and concern among party ranks, Clooney’s op-ed was published in The New York Times, prompting national conversations on Biden’s capabilities and the future of the Democratic Party.
In a statement responding to Clooney’s claims, a Biden spokesperson insisted that the president remained capable of fulfilling his duties, dismissing concerns about the impact of age on his performance while in office.
