Bjp Emerges Victorious In Chandigarh Mayor Election Despite Lack Of Majority

Chandigarh witnessed a gripping battle for the position of Mayor in the recent municipal elections. Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lacking a majority, its candidate Manoj Sonakar emerged victorious. The AAP and Congress had to face defeat with their shared candidate Kuldeep Tatta, as Sonakar managed to secure four votes ahead.

During the election, eight votes were deemed invalid by the presiding officer. Both the AAP and Congress leveled allegations of tampering against the presiding officer Anil Masih, accusing him of manipulating several votes, as seen in a video. The video serves as evidence to support their claim.

Earlier, the election for the positions of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of the municipal corporation was scheduled for January 18. However, it was postponed due to a sudden illness of the presiding officer Anil Masih, resulting in the elections being postponed.
