Bloodlines 2 Vampire Game Review

Seattle, WA — After more than 20 years since the original, the highly anticipated sequel, Bloodlines 2, finally arrives but not without a troubled history. Players step into the shoes of an ancient vampire who awakens in a dilapidated Seattle building, struggling with memory loss and a strange sigil on their hand.

The first act is explosive. Players quickly learn to feed on unsuspecting cops and engage in violent skirmishes against rival undead creatures while navigating the intricate vampire hierarchy of the city. One feature adds depth to the plot: a younger vampire voice named Fabian shares the protagonist’s mind, assisting with detective work and infusing a classic gumshoe flair into the gameplay.

Developed by Hardsuit Labs and then handed to The Chinese Room, Bloodlines 2’s journey has been fraught with challenges. Initially starting in 2015, it underwent significant restructuring in 2021, resulting in a 25-hour narrative still struggling to find coherence. “It’s not a total bust, but there are a lot of evident loose ends,” said one reviewer.

Despite a wide array of vampire abilities, the gameplay suffers from an imbalance of power. Players begin with substantial strength, which diminishes the need to explore new abilities. Attempts to implement unique powers often fall flat, leaving fans frustrated with unresponsive controls.

Interactions with human NPCs can also be bizarre and awkward, detracting from the immersion players seek in a vampire-themed RPG. Unusual dialogues and repetitive character behaviors feel outdated, reminiscent of mid-2000s gaming rather than a fresh experience.

The side quests lack substance, often feeling like tedious filler instead of engaging storylines that would enrich the game. “You’ll have a much better time just focusing on the main quest,” the reviewer advises, noting that most sidequests have little effect on the narrative or character relationships.

Bloodlines 2 may have been born out of development chaos, but it offers glimpses of intriguing potential amidst the chaos. As Halloween approaches, players may find some enjoyment in exploring the dark world it presents.
