Borderlands 4 Receives Major Balance Update with Key Buffs

Frisco, CA – Gearbox Software has announced its first major balance update for Borderlands 4, recently released on September 12, 2025. The developer aims to enhance player experience by providing significant buffs to various character builds, facilitating greater diversity among the Vault Hunters.
In a statement, Gearbox mentioned its goal of enabling players to customize their characters and create unique strategies by blending different gear, skills, and specializations. Akey focus of this update is on improving skills that have been underperforming. Amon, often seen as the weakest character, has received enhancements to bring him up to par with other characters.
Also included in the update is work on Vex‘s summoned creatures and Rafa‘s melee capabilities, making these builds more effective in the late game, according to Gearbox. Additionally, the developer made adjustments to Harlowe, ensuring that his Stasis abilities are more rewarding.
While addressing the buffs, Gearbox remains committed to leaving currently overpowered builds untouched for now. The studio warned players that an eventual adjustment to these builds is likely as they continue to monitor the game’s balance. The upcoming plans include investigating Class Mods, Rep Kits, and Shields to enhance overall build variety.
Gearbox expressed excitement for the road ahead for Borderlands 4, stating, “This is just the start of an exciting year of updates and content, and we can’t wait to experience it all with our community.”
In addition to balance changes, the latest patch also brought performance improvements, including the auto-clearing of stale shaders, which helps reduce performance issues in some PC setups. Players have eagerly anticipated this enhancement, especially those dealing with performance degradation.
The full patch notes outline various Action Skills and Passives changes designed to boost the gameplay experience for all character types. For more information, players can refer to the official Gearbox channels or community forums.
