Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall Focus on Timing Ahead of Season

Santa Clara, California – San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy recently praised second-year wide receiver Ricky Pearsall while discussing areas for improvement ahead of the new season. Pearsall aims to sharpen his skills following a challenging year marked by injury.
Pearsall, who missed significant playing time after a shooting incident in late August 2022, returned to appear in 11 games last season. During that time, he recorded 31 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns. At a recent training camp session, Pearsall approached Purdy, expressing a desire for accountability. “When I come back, bro, hold me accountable on all my depths,” Pearsall said. “All the timing stuff, make sure I’m on time with you, bro. For me, I just don’t want anything left on the table. You feel me? Whatever I can do for you.”
The 2024 first-round pick has faced challenges this offseason, missing the team’s minicamp and organized team activities due to a hamstring injury. Although Pearsall has returned for training camp, the coaching staff has managed his workload carefully, sidelining him for practices and the first preseason game against the Denver Broncos to prevent further injury.
With fellow wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk expected to miss the first month of the season recovering from a torn ACL, Pearsall’s partnership with Purdy becomes even more crucial. The young wideout, selected from Florida, is eager to establish a strong rhythm with his quarterback as he aims for a breakout season in 2025.
In other news, the 49ers faced a potential injury scare during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Rookie defensive tackle C.J. West left early with a hyperextended knee during a drill. Head coach Kyle Shanahan reported that West walked off the field under his own power, and initial tests show no major damage, reminiscent of last week’s injury to defensive lineman Mykel Williams.
While West will likely miss the upcoming game against the Raiders, both he and Williams are finding success in training camp. Missed opportunities for these promising rookies could hinder their development as the regular season approaches, with the 49ers set to play the Seattle Seahawks in their opener on September 7.
