Browns Rely on Ford as Judkins Remains Unsigned Amid Domestic Violence Probe
BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns face uncertainty as running back Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned due to an ongoing NFL investigation linked to domestic violence allegations. The Browns selected Judkins with the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, expecting him to be a key contributor from the start.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski expressed confidence in his team’s running game, despite Judkins’ absence. “When you talk about the run game, it’s easy to say the running backs and the offensive line, but it does take everybody,” Stefanski said. He emphasized the importance of having a cohesive team effort that includes wide receivers blocking and quarterbacks making the right calls.
Jerome Ford, who rushed for 565 yards last season, is set to start in Week 1, with rookie Dylan Sampson as his backup. Stefanski believes that Ford can lead the charge, backed by a strong offensive line and innovative offensive strategies under new offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren.
Although Judkins is currently holding out for a fully guaranteed contract and subject to potential league discipline, Stefanski and the team remain focused. “We need those guys to step up and carry the load,” he added. Insider Tony Grossi predicts that Judkins could face a 2-4 game suspension, which complicates his contract negotiations.
Ford expressed readiness for the challenge. “I really don’t need the starting job for motivation. I’m just ready to go,” he said. Meanwhile, Stefanski praised Ford, stating, “He’s a player who makes big plays. He has the speed to go the distance on any given time he touches the rock.”
As the Browns prepare to open the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7, the focus shifts to maximizing the performance of current players while awaiting a resolution on Judkins’ status.
