Cam Spencer Signs Four-Year, $10.4 Million Deal with Grizzlies
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Cam Spencer, a native of Davidsonville and graduate of Boys' Latin, has signed a four-year contract worth $10.4 million with the Memphis Grizzlies. Spencer was selected by the Detroit Pistons as the 53rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and later traded to the Grizzlies, where he initially signed a two-way contract.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard averaged 4.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 25 games last season. This year, Spencer’s performance has improved significantly, with averages of 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in just five games.
In a recent interview on Glenn Clark Radio, Spencer expressed his gratitude and excitement regarding his new contract. “I want to be here for my whole career. They showed the belief in me, and I’m going to prove them right every single day and continue to try to prove people wrong. That’s my thing,” he stated on October 24.
Spencer’s collegiate journey included stints at Loyola, Rutgers, and UConn over five years. He notably played alongside Santi Aldama at Loyola, who was picked 30th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft and is now in his fifth season with the Grizzlies. Reflecting on their journey, Spencer said, “When we played our last game together at Loyola, I didn’t think we would play another game or share the floor, and it’s just pretty cool that we took our two unique paths and they ended up coming back together.”
Spencer also cherished a memorable moment from last season when he faced his older brother, Pat, who plays for the Golden State Warriors. In that game, Cam scored seven points while Pat contributed two points, two assists, and one block. “It was a surreal feeling,” he remarked. “I want to beat him and I want to win, but at the same time, I’m always rooting for his success.”
Growing up with brothers Pat and Will, Spencer developed a strong competitive spirit. “We’re just competitive people by nature, but I’ve had it from such a young age,” he explained. “There was a lot of losing and a lot of fights growing up.”
As Spencer embarks on this new chapter with the Grizzlies, fans eagerly anticipate his continued development in the NBA.
