Canada's Relay Team Dashes To Gold In Men's 4x100m

Canada‘s men’s 4×100-metre relay team has made history by winning the gold medal in the final held today, August 9, 2024. With Andre De Grasse running the anchor leg, the team clocked an impressive time of 37.5 seconds, securing their victory.

The Canadians managed to outperform South Africa, which finished in second place with a time of 37.57 seconds, and Great Britain, which took home bronze at 37.61 seconds. Notably, the United States was disqualified after a messy first handoff.

This victory marks a significant achievement for the Canadian team, consisting of Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, and Brendon Rodney, as they had previously won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It’s a remarkable comeback for these athletes, who also snagged a bronze in Rio 2016.

De Grasse’s win adds to his incredible Olympic journey, now totaling seven medals, including two golds. He ties with swimmer Penny Oleksiak as Canada’s most decorated Olympian.

This relay team’s success builds on their prior victories, including a gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Today’s triumph adds to Canada’s rich history in the men’s 4x100m relay, with this being their fifth Olympic medal in the event. The only other gold medal was back in Atlanta 1996.
