Communication Outage Casper Wyoming

CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper area experienced two nights of communication outages affecting customers of Spectrum and Verizon Wireless. The disruptions were linked to severed fiber-optic cables, with the first incident occurring around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Spectrum’s parent company, Charter Communications, confirmed that a third-party fiber cut led to the initial service interruption. “Our engineers quickly began repairs, and services were fully restored this morning by 7 a.m. MT,” the spokesperson stated in an email.

The service outage persisted overnight, impacting numerous customers in Casper, Bar Nunn, and Mills. Customers were left without phone or internet service for several hours before repairs were completed.

On Wednesday night, at approximately the same time as the previous outage, a second service disruption occurred starting shortly before 8 p.m. Spectrum reported that most services were restored by 1 a.m., with full restoration achieved by 5 a.m.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and remain committed to delivering reliable service,” Spectrum said in an email regarding the second outage.

A spokesperson for Verizon Wireless explained that their operations rely heavily on fiber cables to support calls, texts, and data transmission. They indicated that repairs were made but an additional fiber issue was necessary to completely restore services, which was accomplished just before 3 a.m. Thursday.

Neither Spectrum nor Verizon disclosed the name of the third-party provider responsible for the fiber damage. However, the disruptions highlight the vulnerabilities within the communication infrastructure that can significantly affect residents during outages.
