The wife of Celtic legend Tommy Burns, Rosemary Burns, tragically passed away at the age of 69 following a medical emergency on a Jet2 flight from Tenerife to Glasgow. The flight was diverted to Cork, Ireland, where Rosemary was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.

A source close to the family disclosed that Rosemary had fallen ill during her holiday in the Canaries and made the decision to return home to Glasgow. The flight, initially bound for Glasgow, was redirected to Cork due to the emergency.

Celtic Football Club expressed devastation upon learning of Rosemary’s passing, extending their thoughts and prayers to her children: Emma, Jenna, Michael, and Jonathan, as well as the entire Celtic Family. Kilmarnock FC also honored Rosemary for inducting her late husband Tommy into the club’s Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Rosemary and Tommy Burns met in Glasgow when they were 17, eventually marrying in 1980 and raising four children together. Tommy, a beloved figure at Celtic as a player, manager, and coach, passed away in 2008 after battling skin cancer.

Jet2 confirmed that the flight was diverted to Cork as a passenger required urgent medical attention. The airline commended the efforts of the crew in handling the situation effectively and ensuring the passenger received the necessary care before the flight resumed to Glasgow.

The passing of Rosemary comes 16 years after Tommy Burns’ death, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many in the Scottish football community. Tributes poured in online for Rosemary and her family, highlighting her kindness and the impact she had on Celtic fans.
