LOS ANGELES, CA — Anime continues its stronghold at the box office as “Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc” opened to an impressive $17.2 million this weekend. Released by Sony and Crunchyroll, the film continues the trend of successful anime adaptations, following the massive success of “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle,” which had previously set records with its $131 million domestic gross.

“Chainsaw Man” stormed the box office, successfully outperforming several new titles released this weekend including “Regretting You,” a romantic drama based on Colleen Hoover’s book. Despite its marketing efforts, “Regretting You” opened to $12.8 million, settling for third place behind “Black Phone 2,” which earned $13 million in its second weekend.

The film “Chainsaw Man” follows the story of Denji, a teenage demon hunter who, after being betrayed, forms a bond with his chainsaw-powered dog, Pochita. The film’s rich visuals and intense storyline resonated with audiences, securing a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and a strong reception at various anime conventions prior to its release.

In its second weekend, “Black Phone 2” maintained its audience well, bringing its total gross to $49 million, supported by the impending Halloween season. Meanwhile, the biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” starring Jeremy Allen White, faces challenges, debuting with $9.1 million and struggling to compete against stronger titles.

As Halloween approaches, audiences can expect various films vying for attention, but the anime genre seems firmly planted in the spotlight. With strong fan engagement and marketing efforts, “Chainsaw Man” is expected to maintain decent momentum in the weeks to come.
