Charlton's Academy Director Reflects On Joe Gomez And Ezri Konsa's England Call Up

Charlton‘s Academy Director, Steve Avory, praises the achievement of two former Charlton players, Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa, who have been selected for the England national team ahead of the European Championships.

Gomez, a seasoned defender with Liverpool, has secured 11 caps for England while Konsa is eyeing his international debut. Avory expresses his pride in their progress and hopes to see them on the pitch at Wembley during the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Reflecting on their academy days, Avory notes the slight age difference between the two players and how they excelled in older age groups. Both players showcased their defensive prowess and versatility across the backline during their time at Charlton.

While Gomez was a consistent figure in the back four, Konsa, a former U18 World Cup winner, exhibited technical finesse honed from his experience in the midfield during his schoolboy days.

Charlton fans can show support for the academy by joining the Valley Gold scheme, contributing to the development of future talents while also standing a chance to win cash prizes.
