Chase Brown’s Journey: From Homelessness to NFL Stardom

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Chase Brown, a running back for the Cincinnati Bengals, has experienced a remarkable journey from homelessness in Canada to being a standout player in the NFL. Brown, along with his twin brother Sydney, faced numerous challenges as they moved between shelters and family homes. Despite these hardships, his dream of playing in the NFL remained steadfast.
“My whole life I’ve always wanted to play in the NFL,” Brown said. “Growing up in Canada, it seems like the NFL has always been this impossible dream.” Even as a child, he believed in his potential, saying he was not “delusional” but truly dedicated to making his dream a reality.
After moving to the United States for high school, he attended St. Stephen High School in Florida and then played at Western Michigan before transferring to the University of Illinois. Over the past two NFL seasons, his hard work has turned him into a significant player, accumulating 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in 2024 alone.
“I’m just kind of addicted to seeing the results of putting in the work,” Brown explained. This dedication can be seen in his rise from a backup role to a key contributor on the Bengals’ offense.
Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson praised Brown’s determination, saying, “Add another monster to the fire.” His commitment has set him apart, even as a fifth-round draft pick in 2023.
Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher noted Brown’s exceptional preparation and work ethic, calling him a “top-10 back in this league.” Brown’s breakthrough came during the second half of the last season when he stepped in for an injured teammate and excelled, posting five consecutive games with over 100 scrimmage yards.
Running backs coach Justin Hill emphasized that Brown’s relentless work ethic sets him apart from others. “He works harder than anyone in the building,” Hill said. “It’s in his DNA.”
Brown’s ability to adapt has also enhanced his skills. During the offseason, he focused on improving his route running, becoming a more versatile asset to the Bengals offense. This training paid off, allowing him to catch passes effectively and increase his role as a receiver.
As a father to his newborn son, Oceanz, Brown reflects on his responsibilities and goals. “I’m trying to just focus on making the plays,” he stated. “If I make the plays, I’ll make myself undeniable for a second contract.” With aspirations high, he aims to surpass his impressive 2024 season and solidify his place in the league.
“I always knew I could play in the NFL,” Brown said, emphasizing that his drive is fueled by a younger version of himself who dreamed of this success. His commitment to hard work continues to pay off as he prepares for the upcoming NFL season.
