Chicago Fire Defeats Columbus Crew 2-0 with Strong Performance

CHICAGO (Sept. 27, 2025) – Chicago Fire FC secured a 2-0 victory over Columbus Crew at Soldier Field Saturday night, marking their second consecutive clean sheet. The win puts Chicago at 14 wins, 11 losses, and 6 draws this season, earning them 48 points and a five-point lead over the New York Red Bulls for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
Defender Andrew Gutman scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute, his third goal of the season, bending the ball into the far side of the net. The Fire controlled much of the first half, with an impressive share of possession and several shots on goal, but had two goals disallowed before heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Chicago maintained their aggressive play and added another goal in the 70th minute. André Franco advanced the ball, finding Hugo Cuypers on the right. Cuypers then finished with finesse from the right side, bringing his total to 17 goals for the season. Columbus Crew was unable to counter, as Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady recorded his fifth shutout of the year.
Chicago’s next match is against Inter Miami CF on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. CT. This fixture was rescheduled due to Miami’s participation in Leagues Cup 2025.
