China’s Shanghai Kepler Robotics Unveils Powerful Forerunner K2 Humanoid Robot
China’s Shanghai Kepler Robotics has made significant strides in the field of humanoid robotics with the introduction of its latest model, the Forerunner K2. This fifth-generation humanoid robot is designed to excel in various commercial applications across multiple industries, including intelligent manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, high-risk operations, and research and education.
The Forerunner K2 boasts impressive capabilities, featuring 52 degrees of freedom throughout its body, which allows for more natural and fluid movements. The robot’s rotating and tilting head module, combined with improved arm and leg rigidity, enhances its overall functionality and ease of maintenance. Each hand of the K2 supports up to 11 degrees of active and passive freedom and can carry up to 33 pounds, with fingertips equipped with sensor arrays containing 96 contact points for precise object manipulation and tactile sensing.
Kepler has significantly enhanced the K2’s vision system and navigation software, enabling the robot to better perceive and react to its environment in real-time. The robot’s AI capabilities have been expanded through a combination of embodied intelligence software, imitation and reinforcement learning, and a cloud-based cognitive model. These improvements allow the K2 to perform specific tasks autonomously and cooperate effectively with human operators.
The Forerunner K2 is positioned as an ideal solution for various industrial tasks such as materials handling, sample processing, patrol and inspection, and quality control. With an estimated retail price range of $20,000 to $30,000, Kepler aims to make its humanoid robots accessible to a wide range of businesses. Mass production of the K2 is planned to commence in the second half of 2024.
