Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Monmouth County Amid High Tides

MONMOUTH COUNTY, N.J. — The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory on Wednesday at 5:21 a.m., warning residents of potential flooding on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The advisory indicates that low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways could see up to half a foot of inundation above ground level. According to the weather service, additional minor coastal flooding is also possible with high tides expected through the weekend.
“At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways,” the weather service stated. They noted that some road closures could occur, either partial or full, due to the flooding.
The weather service emphasized that a Coastal Flood Advisory means minor tidal flooding is anticipated, which often leads to road closures. The most at-risk roadways tend to flood first, and residents are warned not to leave vehicles in areas susceptible to tidal flooding.
“Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is,” cautioned the weather service. They added that doing so could put lives at risk and potentially cause costly damage to vehicles.
