St. Mary’s County Coastal Flooding

CALIFORNIA, Md. — The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for St. Mary’s County. Tidal waters could rise 1 to 2 feet above ground level in vulnerable areas through early Friday morning, Oct. 3, 2025.

The warning was posted at 3:16 p.m. Thursday and will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Friday. The greatest risk of flooding is expected around tonight’s high tides.

Forecasters report that water levels are currently running 2 to 2.5 feet higher than normal. This surge could push water into roads and yards in the county’s lowest-lying waterfront communities.

At 3.5 feet, water typically spills onto roads on St. George Island. It also reaches into yards and nears structures. Similar flooding conditions are anticipated at marinas along St. Mary’s River, Smith Creek, and Jutland Creek.

High tide is expected at different times: 10:28 p.m. at Point Lookout, 11:26 p.m. at Piney Point, and 12:02 a.m. at Coltons Point.

Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely, move vehicles from flood-prone areas, and exercise caution when traveling near the shoreline overnight.
