Local Business Support Community Rally Events

EUGENE, Ore. — A vibrant community effort is underway to support local businesses facing financial hardships due to recent economic challenges. On Saturday, dozens of residents gathered at the downtown park to participate in a fundraising event aimed at bolstering small businesses in the area.

The ‘Support Local’ initiative, organized by the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, included food trucks, live music, and local artisans showcasing their products. Organizers reported that the event drew more than 500 attendees, helping to raise over $10,000 for participating businesses.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout and the community spirit,” said Jenna Harris, executive director of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce. “This event demonstrates our commitment to keeping local businesses alive and thriving.”

Local restaurants, shops, and service providers have faced downward trends due to supply chain disruptions and labor shortages. With many small businesses operating on thin margins, the effects of these challenges have been particularly severe.

As part of the initiative, participating businesses offered discounts and promotions, encouraging residents to shop locally. Vendor spots at the event were also made available to businesses free of charge as a means to increase visibility.

“I really appreciate the support from everyone here today,” said Mark Thompson, owner of Green Leaf Café. “Every little bit helps, and it’s heartwarming to see the community come together.”

According to a recent survey by the National Federation of Independent Business, over 80% of small businesses reported experiencing significant financial impacts due to the pandemic and subsequent economic trends. Events like ‘Support Local’ are crucial for their recovery.

The chamber plans to conduct similar events in the coming months, aiming to create a sustainable support network for businesses throughout Eugene. “The goal is to foster a culture of local patronage that lasts beyond today,” Harris added.
