Concerns are escalating on social media regarding the disappearance of an anonymous whistleblower known as PIDOM Nigeria. Reports indicate that PIDOM has been missing since early August.

The warning was highlighted by David Hundeyin, an investigative journalist who has maintained communication with PIDOM. Hundeyin shared that he received a message from an individual claiming to be a close associate of PIDOM, providing the login details to PIDOM’s X account. However, numerous inconsistencies in the individual’s account, coupled with several unsuccessful login attempts, led Hundeyin to suspect that the government might be implicated in PIDOM’s disappearance.

Hundeyin’s investigation suggests the possibility of a cover-up by authorities, raising significant concerns about the safety of whistleblowers and the freedom of expression in Nigeria. The hashtag #PIDOM is currently trending as the top topic on X Nigeria, reflecting widespread public concern.

Prominent pro-democracy activist Omoyele Sowore has also raised his voice, calling for the immediate release of PIDOM. In a statement posted on X, Sowore expressed his distress over the alleged abduction and secret detention of PIDOM by forces associated with the current regime, cautioning that PIDOM could face harm if urgent actions are not taken.

The details surrounding PIDOM’s disappearance were further elaborated in a post shared by Hundeyin, entitled “SOS Alert: PIDOM NIGERIA Is Missing (And I Think We May Know Who Has Him).” Hundeyin claimed to have received information suggesting that PIDOM was arrested on August 5 in Port Harcourt and subsequently transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja.

According to Hundeyin, the unidentified individual alleged that PIDOM instructed them to provide his account details to Hundeyin if he faced any danger. Despite this, the account details shared were incorrect, raising suspicions of potential government involvement.

After intensive communications, Hundeyin managed to gain access to PIDOM’s X account, subsequently securing it by changing the password and setting up multi-factor authentication. Following these actions, he encountered attempts to hack into his WhatsApp account, further intensifying his belief in government intervention.

Despite their professional relationship, Hundeyin noted that he and PIDOM had never met in person, as PIDOM took precautions to ensure his anonymity. Hundeyin has now voiced grave concerns for PIDOM’s safety, fearing he may be in serious danger.

As the community continues to rally for awareness, various hashtags such as #FreePidom and #WhereisPidom are gaining traction on social media, emphasizing the urgent need for clarity regarding PIDOM’s whereabouts.
