Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Falls Ill During Rally, Vows to Oppose PM Modi
In a recent public rally held in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge fell ill while addressing attendees. The incident occurred as Kharge was paying tribute to a head constable who lost his life in an ongoing operation against terrorists in the region. Despite his sudden dizziness, Kharge expressed his determination to continue his political fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the event, Kharge pledged to work towards restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “We will definitely grant statehood and fight for it, no matter what. I am 83-years-old, and I’m not going to die so soon. I will stay alive until we remove Modi. I will listen to you and fight for you.” His words were aimed at energizing the party’s base in the area amid ongoing election campaigns.
Following the episode of dizziness, Kharge was assisted by his colleagues into a chair, and medical personnel were summoned to check his health. According to Congress leaders, including General Secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir, Kharge’s condition was stabilized by the medical team, with only a case of slightly low blood pressure reported.
As part of his itinerary, Kharge had flown to Jasrota to support Congress candidates in the assembly polls. Despite the health scare, his resolve remained firm, and his son, Priyank Kharge, who serves as a minister in the Karnataka government, reassured supporters via a social media post that his father was doing well and remained committed to his political mission.
In the political context, Kharge critiqued the BJP government, accusing it of ruling Jammu and Kashmir through remote control and delaying the election process until compelled by the Supreme Court. The rallies in Jammu and Kashmir are part of the campaign efforts for the assembly elections, whose third phase of voting is scheduled for October 1. The earlier phases saw a healthy voter turnout, with 61.38 percent in the first phase on September 18 and 57.31 percent in the second phase on September 25.
