CHARLESTON, S.C. — Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace harshly criticized law enforcement officials during an incident at Charleston International Airport on Thursday. A report obtained through South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act describes her using vulgar language toward police officers as they attempted to escort her to her flight.

According to the incident report, officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department were notified to meet Mace at 6:30 a.m. However, when they arrived, they learned that she was running late. At approximately 7 a.m., they discovered Mace at a special entrance designed for trusted flight crew members.

Upon being located, the report details that Mace loudly proclaimed, “You’re fucking incompetent,” and added, “This is no way to treat a fucking U.S. Representative.” Officers were shocked by her tirade, noting that she also engaged in a heated conversation on her phone during the walk to her gate, consistently complaining about their service.

One officer reported, “She also said we would never treat Tim Scott like this,” referencing the South Carolina Senator. Mace’s claims of mistreatment continued as she approached gate B-8, where she remained agitated before finally boarding her flight.

After her flight left, an American Airlines gate agent approached the officers, expressing disbelief over her behavior and suggesting that a U.S. Representative should conduct themselves differently. The report indicates that a TSA supervisor also expressed his displeasure, confirming that Mace had displayed similar behavior toward TSA staff at the checkpoint.

In response to the incident, Cameron Morabito, Mace’s director of operations, issued a statement emphasizing that security concerns have heightened following recent threats against public figures.

Mace later addressed the situation on X, alleging that all members of Congress utilize the same entrance and challenged the media to include similar details about other congressional members.

The incident report concluded that any other individual acting in a similar manner at the airport would have faced immediate consequences.
