Construction Delays Hinder U.S. Air Force Radar Project in Palau
Construction delays are causing trouble for a new radar system being built by the U.S. Air Force on the island nation of Palau. The project, known as the Tactical Multi-Mission Over the Horizon Radar (TACMOR), was first proposed back in 2017 and is meant to enhance the monitoring capabilities of the U.S. and its allies across the Pacific region.
The radar system is designed to have two key locations: a transmitter site on Babeldaob Island and a receiver site on Angaur Island. Originally, the project was set to be completed by 2026, but these recent construction setbacks are pushing back that timeline.
The delays come amid a review of funding for the project, raising concerns about when the radar system will finally be operational. The TACMOR radar is considered integral for improving regional security and surveillance in a part of the world that is increasingly becoming a focus of international attention.
