Conway Defends Trump’s Tariff Policies Amid Economic Concerns

NEW YORK, NY — Kellyanne Conway addressed fears over President Donald Trump‘s tariff policies during a segment on Fox Business Tuesday. Speaking to business leaders and conservative allies, Conway asserted that the economy is on the right track despite concerns about Trump’s trade wars and short-term market fluctuations.
Conway highlighted remarks from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who indicated significant progress in discussions with China. These talks mark the first round since Trump’s implementation of reciprocal tariffs in April. Conway criticized those who panicked over the trade policies, stating, “Part of his delegation just left Saudi to go to Turkey to try to get peace with Ukraine and Russia. He’s doing all things at once.”
She pointed out skepticism from both Democrats and certain establishment Republicans, saying, “A lot of those were free market friends. A lot of those were people who voted for Trump.” Conway emphasized the importance of patience, quoting Trump: “There’s going to be a little bit of pain for long-term gain.”
Conway praised working-class Americans for their support, stating they believe Trump will help rebuild the economy, which has been disrupted by decades of globalization. “They said he’s going to rebuild this economy so it works for all of us,” she said.
Conway further supported Trump’s economic agenda, highlighting tariffs as a tool to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. She remarked on inflation during the Biden administration and suggested that it was exacerbated by globalist policies. According to Conway, “We had inflation all four years of Biden-Harris, and we didn’t have these tariffs.”
Conway’s remarks come as Trump embarks on a weeklong trip to the Middle East, which includes meetings in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. The trip aims to secure business agreements and strengthen relationships with Gulf allies early in Trump’s second term.
