Central Arkansas Weather Forecast

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A late weekend cold front has brought cooler-than-average temperatures to central Arkansas, along with multiple opportunities for rain in the coming days.

Meteorological fall starts in eight days, and this final week of August will offer a preview of the season. The upper atmosphere’s northwest flow is responsible for several disturbances likely to trigger scattered rain showers. The rain may help alleviate the region’s ongoing drought.

The cold front swept through Arkansas on Sunday, allowing cooler, drier air to settle in. A disturbance is expected to move in from Monday into Tuesday, bringing spotty rain. Afternoon temperatures on Monday might reach the low 80s, dipping into the 70s on Tuesday.

Wednesday is anticipated to bring a mix of sun and clouds, helping temperatures climb back into the low to mid-80s. Another weather disturbance will affect the state Thursday into Friday, resulting once again in scattered rain showers and keeping temperatures in the 70s.

As Labor Day weekend approaches, some rain remains possible, but the coverage will likely be less extensive than earlier in the week. Sunshine could help push temperatures back to the low 80s over the holiday.

Morning lows throughout the week are projected to drop into the 50s and 60s. Fortunately, no severe weather is forecast in the next seven days, although several inches of rain are expected to fall across central Arkansas. Parents are advised to send their children with rain gear to school, as rain might slow morning and evening commutes.

The forecasted rain could also help reduce ongoing drought and wildfire risks in the area.
