Cruzeiro Prepares for Crucial Match Against Fluminense
Belo Horizonte, Brazil — The Cruzeiro soccer team has finalized its preparations to face Fluminense this Sunday at 4 p.m. (Brasília time) at Mineirão Stadium. The team will be without its captain, Lucas Silva, who is suspended after receiving his third yellow card.
Arroyo had limited participation earlier in the week but returned to full training on Saturday, making him available for selection. Coach Leonardo Jardim is likely to name Eduardo as Silva’s replacement in the starting lineup. Walace is also an option but has seen less time on the pitch.
Fagner joined part of the team’s training but is still recovering from a right fibula fracture he sustained at the end of July. Matheus Henrique, Wanderson, and Marquinhos remain sidelined due to injuries.
Jardim’s expected lineup includes Cássio; William, Fabrício Bruno, Villalba, and Kaiki; Lucas Romero, Eduardo, and Matheus Pereira; Christian, Arroyo, and Kaio Jorge.
The squad’s last training session focused on tactical adjustments and set pieces, with emphasis on maintaining intensity. The match against Fluminense is considered crucial for consolidating the team’s playing style and pursuing a strong finish to the season.
Currently sitting in third place in the Brasileirão with 63 points, Cruzeiro has secured a spot in the preliminary rounds of the Copa Libertadores, marking a return to the tournament for the first time since 2019.
“This match is vital for us,” said Jardim. “We’re looking to build on our momentum and keep climbing the table.”
