Cybertruck Owner Surprised by Battery Replacement Costs but Appreciates Loaner

Phoenix, Arizona — Ryan Patch, a Cybertruck owner, recently discovered that his truck requires a high-voltage battery pack replacement after experiencing charging issues. Initially, Ryan believed the problem stemmed from his home charger, which is six years old. However, after trying different charging sources, he realized the issue was with his vehicle.
When he brought his Cybertruck to a Tesla service center, Ryan was surprised to learn that a full battery replacement was necessary. This 800-volt battery, central to the vehicle’s power and propulsion, can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Fortunately for Ryan, the replacement is covered under Tesla’s 8-year or 150,000-mile warranty.
Despite this good news, he faced frustration waiting for the repair to be completed. Ryan shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “It’s still frustrating to be without a vehicle for weeks while it undergoes a major repair.” Thankfully, Tesla provided him with a loaner Cybertruck, which Ryan noted was a newer model, allowing him to enjoy driving a superior vehicle during the repair process.
Ryan mentioned that he can drive the loaner up to 200 miles daily, with a charge of $0.50 per mile for any additional distance. He expressed his relief at not incurring additional costs for the battery replacement while also highlighting the inconvenience of being without his Cybertruck.
In an effort to help fellow Cybertruck owners, Ryan took to Facebook to share his experience, detailing the sequence of events leading to the diagnosis and repair. Along with his post, he included visuals demonstrating the issues he encountered, including a screenshot from his Tesla app that displayed an error message regarding the power source.
After additional communication with Tesla, Ryan announced that the repair was completed successfully. He shared a confirmation note from the technician stating the replacement resolved the charging issues and restored normal operation of his vehicle.
Many in the online community praised Tesla for their service responsiveness, with some expressing concerns over the overall reliability of the Cybertruck. Despite these worries, Ryan remains optimistic about his experience with Tesla’s service.
