Davido Grateful For Grammy Nomination But Fails To Win In Three Categories

Nigerian music sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, expressed his excitement at being nominated for the first-ever Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards. The Grammy-nominated artist’s song ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys made it to the list alongside four other remarkable African tracks. In an interview with Billboard at the Pre-Grammy show, Davido mentioned that he would be overjoyed if he were to win the award in this category.

Regardless of the outcome, Davido highlighted the significance of having an African category, acknowledging the opportunity it provides for artists to shine on a global stage. He emphasized the importance of unity and celebration within the African music community, stating that he would cheer on the winner wholeheartedly.

The nominated song ‘Unavailable’ faced tough competition from Burna Boy‘s ‘City Boys,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water’ from South Africa. Although Davido didn’t secure the victory in this particular category, he still had chances to win in two other categories: Best Global Music Album with ‘Timeless’ and Best Global Music Performance with ‘Feel’.

In the Best Global Music Performance category, Davido competed against notable artists such as Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab, Silvana Estrada, Béla Fleck, Falu, and Gaurav Shah. Meanwhile, in the Best Global Music Album category, he encountered tough contenders like Burna Boy, Susana Baca, Shakti, and Bokante.

The Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony, set to take place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, will be an exciting event for both the nominees and fans eagerly awaiting the results.
