Debbie Harry Biopic Casting

NEW YORK, NY — Rock icon Debbie Harry is eager for a biopic depicting her life and has shared her dream casting choice. In a recent interview with The Times, Harry stated, “If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven. I just think she’s a great actor and she could do anything.”

Harry’s comments come as interest in biopics continues to grow in Hollywood. Florence Pugh, the Oscar-nominated actress, had previously expressed her desire to portray Harry during a panel at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. At that time, Pugh referred to Harry as “so cool” and pinpointed her as a figure she would love to emulate on-screen.

Fans see several similarities between Harry and Pugh, who is currently 29 years old, just two years younger than Harry was when her band, Blondie, released their self-titled debut album in 1976. Both women share a similar height, and Pugh’s typically blonde hair mirrors Harry’s iconic look.

Pugh has also displayed her musical abilities, having played an aspiring musician in Zach Braff’s 2023 film, A Good Person, where she performed two original songs. As Harry prepares for her own musical projects — including a new album called High Noon — she looks forward to seeing the biopic come to life.

In the past, Harry endorsed actress Kirsten Dunst for an earlier biopic attempt that did not materialize. In 2007, she described Dunst as “a sweetie” and expressed support for her to take on the role, emphasizing the need for actors to take on unconventional parts.

The buzz around the film echoes the current trend of biographical films in the industry, with Jeremy Allen White set to portray Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming project.
