Long queues at certain polling stations in Bitou caused a delay in capturing the votes at the IEC’s control centre in Plettenberg Bay.

One voting station only delivered its results to the centre at 10:00 today, an indication of the delay.

In Kurland, the 1,278 votes cast in Ward 1 had to be recounted twice because figures did not tally.

Kurland started counting votes at 22:00 last night and only finished at 06:50 today, 30 May.

Kranshoek also experienced delays.

“Voter turnout was better and I noticed many youth voting,” said Sidney le Fleur, IEC area manager for Ward 1 in Kurland.

The reason for the high turnout, I believe, is that people want change.’ ‘We bring you the latest Garden Route, Hessequa, Karoo news’
