Delhi Congress Holds Rally Led by Mallikarjun Kharge to ‘Save Democracy’
The Delhi Congress held a major rally in the Capital on Saturday, led by national president Mallikarjun Kharge. The rally, organized by the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, took place at Ramlila Maidan in Geeta Colony. Kharge addressed the Nyay Sankalp workers’ convention, where he highlighted Rahul Gandhi‘s effort to save democracy and the Constitution through the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, even in adverse weather conditions. He emphasized that if this struggle fails, the people will suffer under the current Narendra Modi-led government.
The Congress leader urged party workers to work at the booth levels and select the right people as agents to defeat the BJP in the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the fight is to protect democracy and the Constitution and stated that the governance model under Modi is not pro-poor.
Kharge also expressed concern about the infringement on freedom of speech and the misuse of agencies like the ED and I-T to intimidate the opposition. He criticized the BJP for allegedly poaching opposition MLAs and putting them in jail. The event witnessed over 20,000 participants and caused traffic congestion in areas like Pusta Road and Vikas Marg.
The Delhi Congress, in an effort to remove the BJP from the seven Lok Sabha seats, is in the final stages of seat-sharing talks with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Congress leader, Arvinder Singh Lovely, mentioned that the party was mobilizing workers across the Capital and following the decisions made by the party high command regarding seat-sharing.
Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that the Modi government’s “Sab Ka Saath, Sabka Vikas” concept has been deceptive, contrasting it with the welfare initiatives undertaken by Congress leaders in establishing public institutions and major dams. He emphasized that the infrastructure development in Delhi, including roads, flyovers, and stadiums, was a result of the Congress government‘s efforts. He accused the BJP of excelling in dividing the people.
The rally was attended by several senior leaders including Deepak Babaria, Ajay Maken, Subhash Chopra, Devender Yadav, and Alka Lamba. The Congress is now awaiting the finalization of seat-sharing discussions with the AAP, while the BJP spokesperson, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, criticized the Congress for starting its preparations for the elections with low confidence.
