Delta Flight Diverted to Los Angeles After Engine Shutdown
SALT LAKE CITY — A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Salt Lake City was diverted to Los Angeles early Wednesday after one of its two engines was shut down.
Flight 357, which took off from Honolulu, was flying over the Pacific Ocean when the crew declared an emergency, requesting a priority landing at Los Angeles International Airport shortly before 7 a.m.
Delta Air Lines did not specify the reason why the Boeing 767-300ER experienced an engine failure, which affected the 212 passengers on board.
The airline released a statement emphasizing their commitment to safety: “Safety comes before all else — that’s why the Delta flight crew followed extensive training and procedures to divert to Los Angeles, resulting in a safe landing.”
Upon landing in Los Angeles, the aircraft was inspected before it taxied to the gate under its own power. Maintenance teams are currently examining the plane for further issues.
Passengers onboard the flight have been rebooked on new flights to complete their journeys to Salt Lake City.
