Disney Hulu Merger Announcement 2026

Burbank, CaliforniaDisney announced plans to fully merge the Hulu app into a unified Disney+ app by 2026, phasing out the standalone Hulu app. Although the Hulu app will disappear, users will still be able to access their existing subscriptions and content under the newly branded “Hulu on Disney+” section.

The announcement accompanies a price increase for subscribers of both streaming services. Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston emphasized that the integration aims to create an “improved consumer experience,” providing users with “tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization.”

As part of this integration, viewers will notice updates in the coming weeks, including a new Hulu tab on the Disney+ app. There will also be a “For You” section featuring curated recommendations from Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, even for those not bundled with Hulu.

Jason Wong, Disney’s Senior Vice President of Product Management, explained that the new additions are intended to showcase the breadth of content available and encourage users to consider bundled subscriptions.

Since its launch in 2008, Hulu has become a hub for original programming, with flagship shows like “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Only Murders in the Building.” Iger reassured subscribers that all original content will continue to be available under the new structure and that users could still opt for standalone subscriptions to either service.

Disney’s relationship with Hulu has evolved significantly, with Disney acquiring a controlling interest following its $71.3 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019. By 2025, Disney fully owned Hulu after purchasing Comcast‘s remaining shares.

In the meantime, Hulu remains priced at $10.99 per month, with a premium ad-free option available for $19.99.
