Double Amputee Boy Invited Back to Buckingham Palace After Traffic Misfortune
A nine-year-old double amputee boy, Tony Hudgell, from Kent, has been re-invited to Buckingham Palace following a traffic mishap that caused him to miss a Royal Garden Party hosted by King Charles III. Tony expressed excitement about meeting the King, stating his curiosity to know how the monarch is doing after receiving treatment.
King Charles III, who recently returned after battling cancer, welcomed guests at the garden party on Wednesday, including Tony, who unfortunately had to turn back due to a traffic jam on the M20 highway.
Receiving a surprise social media from the Royal Family granting an invite for a future event, Tony’s spirits were lifted after feeling disappointed. His adoptive mother, Paula Hudgell, shared that the gesture brought joy and brightness to Tony’s demeanor.
The young fundraiser, Tony, had both legs amputated as a result of abuse by his birth parents, undergoing a recent surgery to assist in his mobility. Paula hopes that by the next garden party in May 2025, Tony will walk unaided around the palace, as confirmed by the Lord Chamberlain’s office.
Having raised over £1.8 million for charities and championed tougher sentencing for child cruelty, Tony was the youngest recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM) for his contributions to preventing child abuse.
