Downing Street Prepares for the Passing of Larry the Cat
Downing Street officials have reportedly developed a media plan in anticipation of the death of Larry, the government’s beloved ‘Chief Mouser‘.
At 17 years old, Larry has outlived the average lifespan for a tabby cat and is considered to be in his final years. Government sources indicate that the preparations include a press release and graphics, which have been prepared ahead of the unfortunate day.
Despite some earlier concerns regarding his health, sources confirm that Larry is currently “doing okay.” However, officials emphasize the need for sensitivity in handling the communication regarding his passing.
Originally adopted from Battersea Cats Home, Larry has been residing at Number 10 since February 15, 2011. He is notable for being the first cat in this residence to hold the official title of Chief Mouser.
The biography on the Cabinet Office website highlights Larry’s significant impact, stating, “He has captured the hearts of the Great British public.” The public often expresses their affection for him through gifts and treats.
Throughout his time at Downing Street, Larry has engaged in various activities including greeting guests, inspecting security measures, and ensuring antique furniture meets his napping standards, while also strategizing on how to address the house’s mouse occupancy.
