Ducks Acquire Oliver Kylington from Islanders Ahead of Trade Deadline

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Oliver Kylington from the New York Islanders in exchange for future considerations, the teams announced early Friday morning. The move comes as the NHL trade deadline approaches, with teams rushing to finalize deals.
Kylington, 27, has played in 214 career NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames. In these appearances, he has recorded 18 goals and 41 assists, totaling 59 points along with a +21 rating and 56 penalty minutes. This season, he has earned four points (one goal, three assists) in 13 games for Colorado and has a -3 rating.
Originally signed by Colorado to a one-year contract on Aug. 5, 2024, Kylington was initially traded to the Islanders in a deal that sent long-time center Brock Nelson to Colorado. Nelson, 33, has been one of the players in high demand ahead of Friday’s trade deadline, and is expected to be a strong asset for the Avalanche during their playoff push.
During his career with the Flames, which spanned from 2015-2024, Kylington achieved a personal best in the 2021-22 season, scoring 31 points (9 goals, 22 assists) in 73 games. Notably, he also played 12 playoff games that year, contributing one goal and two assists.
Kylington’s journey experienced a significant challenge as he missed the entire 2022-23 season and the first half of the 2023-24 season due to personal reasons. However, he rebounded to be named one of three finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which honors players who exemplify perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Kylington was selected by Calgary in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He also showcased his talents internationally, representing Sweden at the 2015 U-18 World Championship and the 2017 World Junior Championship.
As teams navigate the final hours leading up to the trade deadline, the NHL landscape is shifting rapidly. Teams are weighing their options and asset values as they look to enhance their playoff prospects. The Ducks will look to integrate Kylington into their lineup ahead of the crunch time in the season.
