Off-duty Officers Respond to Shooting at Lakewood Church in Houston

Off-duty officers swiftly responded to a shooting incident at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, with Governor Greg Abbott expressing condolences and offering state resources.

The shooting took place during a Spanish language service at the renowned Lakewood Church led by Pastor Joel Osteen.

Chief Troy Finner of Houston Police provided details in a news conference, stating that a female suspect, armed with a long rifle, entered the church around 1:53 p.m. local time.

The suspect, accompanied by a 5-year-old boy, was engaged by off-duty officers, resulting in her death at the scene.

Unfortunately, a child was critically injured during the incident, while a 57-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez mentioned that some deputies work part-time at the Lakewood Church, emphasizing community ties.

The female suspect allegedly claimed to have a bomb, although no explosives were found by law enforcement officers.
